Vertical Stack Connection Repairs in Newport Beach

The A-1 Total Service lining team was at it again today in a four-story building in Newport Beach. The lining team spent the day descaling, cleaning and performing camera and location services on all lateral pipes. Several of the pipes had cracks and holes causing a terrible odor in the ceiling of the upper floors and causing a great deal of frustration with the tenants. With the pipes now cleaned, inspected and located we will move on to rehabilitating the pipes with our vertical stack “T-Liner” repairs and epoxy coating of all vent lines to permanently solve the problem.

Lining Cast Iron Pipe in Laguna Beach

Epoxy Lining at VA Hospital

This week while traveling back from a high-profile project in Colorado, the A-1TSP lining team started another crazy project of epoxy lining at a VA hospital. After descaling the pipes, the team began performing sectional point repairs and prepping 1,300FT of 6-inch sewer pipe in the VA hospital for epoxy lining. The A-1TSP team will be installing 150mils throughout the 6-inch sewer pipe. Due to several large holes in the pipe, we used our Perma-Liner mini inverter and strapped the unit to the basement ceiling – 15ft in the air! This picture is 60FT of calibration tube with 2FT sectional point repairs glued into the calibration tube. This is what we call a remote start sectional point repair. Tonight, the A-1TSP lining team will start coating 600FT full of epoxy. Stay tuned for details on our epoxy lining of 6-inch sewer pipe!

Descaling of 43 roof vents before we install 176-foot of 4” CIPP Pipe

This is Chris O. He is a lead technician on the A-1 team performing cleaning and Descaling of 43 roof vents before we install 176-foot of 4” CIPP Pipe provided by Perma-Liner Industries. My team and I find it imperative to clean and prep all laterals before installing and CIPP down the mainline. This helps stop resin balls that form and mix with build-up and debris that is in the laterals.

Example.. average reinstatement without proposing laterals is 45min due to the gunk build-up.

The average cleaning takes up to 30 minutes and provides a better product for the customer. The average reinstatement for a clean lateral is 12 minutes. This also makes a manual reinstatement quicker. When the bubble does not form, you are able to get a camera down the lateral to illuminate the reinstatement area without having a line full of debris and pulling the camera out several times to clean the head. In the following pictures you will see CIPP, one is a project we performed for a contractor who refuses to clean laterals and the reinstatement’s take a very long time, they look bad and cause stoppages. The other pictures are a reinstatement with a properly cleaned lateral. No debris falling out of the pipe.

Descaling Grease Lines in a Local Los Angeles Restaurant

Descaling Grease Lines in a Local Los Angeles Restaurant. Another A-1 team project. This project is performed by our trenchless lining crew technicians. The project was led by Nick Lee who has been with A-1 Total Service Plumbing for 10 years and our newcomer, Stephen Scott.

The helpers are Ramon who is 3 months into his employment with A-1. Ramon shows great quality as a helper. Always on time and eager to learn. Our other lining helper is Griffin. Today is Griffin’s 3rd day at A-1 and he is a great young man and we feel he will pick up drain cleaning and drain descaling very quickly. Finding young men like Ramon and Griffin with good work ethic, commonsense, and eagerness to learn is a rare commodity these days.

The A-1 technicians are willing to train and be successful. We give them 2 thumbs up this week for all crew technicians and training of our helpers! This grease line descaling project was difficult due to the discharge lines leading to the main were extremely congested with debris. We also used a hefty supply of rubber gloves and metal files to complete the descaling job. There was an extremely hard buildup in multiple lines that measured 2″-3” leading to a 4” mainline.
